Dr. Cavanagh, along with doctoral students Alyssa LaBerge and Jen Paruk, were awarded funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation for their project, Implications of Staff-Youth Relations on Physical Safety and Use of Restraints Among Detained Youth. The goal of the project is to use comprehensive, national data on detained youth to better understand how positive youth/staff relationships can improve physical safety in youth detention centers.
