New doctor alert! Amanda Witwer, Ph.D., successfully defended her dissertation, entitled "IN THE EYES OF THE COURT: HOW JUDGES MAKE SENSE OF AND USE ADVISORY SENTENCING GUIDELINES." She conducted detailed interviews with 23 trial court judges to understand why and under what circumstances judges might depart from sentencing guidelines. She will be building from this work as a Research Fellow for the Virginia Sentencing Commission! Congratulations, Dr. Witwer!
